It’s a wing thing — and Noble Pie Parlor gets it. At the recentBiggest Little City Wing Fest, owners Trevor Leppek, Ryan Goldhammer and their crew took the Grand Prize People’s Choice Award for best wings. That’s a threepeat for Noble Pie, which took the prize in 2011 and 2012 when the Wing Fest was the International Chicken Wing Society cook-off.
The boys from Noble Pie also took second place in the Celebrity Judged competition. Wings from Boulevard Pizza in Sparks were the Celebrity Judges’ favorite.
Defending champion Silver Legacy Resort Casino won again in the casino division, but five-time winner Havin' an Affair of Las Vegas was knocked to third in the general division of the 2011 Great International Chicken Wing Society cookoff.
Newcomer Pie Face Pizza Co. took first for its sauce in the 10th annual event's general division, held Friday through Monday. Pizza Plus placed second. Redneck BBQ of Reno placed fourth, and Famous Dave's received fifth place.
My apologies to Pie Face Pizza Co. Mea culpa. Mea magna culpa.
The pizzeria occupies the old Saigon Pearl storefront on West Second Street, within a short walk of at least 10 bars.
When Pie Face opened, I was all too prepared to believe that servicing soused patrons disgorged by the bars was Pie Face's raison d'etre, perhaps with a hipsterish gloss.
